South Dakota pheasant hunting should be even better this year than it was last year. There have been a couple of easy winters in a row and a lot of reproduction the last couple of years. It looks as if 2010 pheasant hunting will be better this year than last year. Hunting been getting better for 4 or 5 years in a row.
Driving from DeSmet SD on highway 25 South to interstate 90 I’ve seen more pheasants this year than I did last year and there were a ton of pheasants along there last year. It wasn’t uncommon to see flocks of 20-40 pheasants at once.
I’ve also seen a lot more between Lake Preston SD and Brooking SD on highway 14 than I’ve ever seen before. Same from Lake Preston to Madison SD on highway 81. There are just a ton of pheasants in the area. These are wild pheasants and are free to hunt for the most part.
Hunting in the Eastern part of SD is just as good as hunting around the Winner area. There are ample places to hunt and plenty of public land that is open for hunting. The pheasant hunting is better in SD than anywhere else in the world.
There are many South Dakota hunting lodges to choose from for your pheasant hunt and many of them have their own land, chock full of pheasants waiting for you to come and shoot them. Lol, well, I imagine the pheasants are hoping you miss but there are plenty of birds in the area and you should get your limits of pheasants with no problem.
There is also a lot of South Dakota public hunting land available and it also has lots of good pheasant hunting cover and habitat. If you need a pheasant hunting guide they are available also but you really need to book now to be sure of getting the times and dates you want for your pheasant hunt. Pheasants are plentiful so get in early or you’ll miss out on some great hunting.
According to the South Dakota GF&P the pheasant hunting dates for this year are Statewide season: Oct. 16, 2010 – Jan. 2, 2011. You can find more information from the GF&P Pheasant Hunting info at GFP or on our Pheasant Page website at this link. Pheasant Hunting SD
There are some local hunting lodges in the area that can provide everything you need and if you don’t want to pay the price of a lodge, and they can be a bit pricey, I would however, advise you to book your room early as they do get filled up.
If you are a pheasant hunter and planning on coming to South Dakota to hunt this fall you really should check out our Pheasant Outfitters out for all of your needs.
