South Dakota Hunting Senior Staff

Our Senior Staff

Comprising a wide variety of expertise and experience, the senior staff at South Dakota Hunting, like our founder, not only enjoy the lifestyle of a hunter, but truely are dedicated to preserving its way of life and ensuring that the sport and its values are carried on into the next generation.
Each member of the staff not only grew up hunting, but most grew up hunting in South Dakota and fully believe that there is no better place in the world to hunt.

Troy Buth a.k.a. "T-Bone"

As a young boy growing up in a small town in northeastern SD, his days were spent shooting gophers and small birds, running a small trap line and chasing pheasants and Hungarian partridge across the prairies.
At the age of 12 his parents purchased a hunting & fishing resort in Canada. For the next 18 years, May through September was spent guiding fishermen in their pursuit of trophy walleye and pike while the fall and winter were spent guiding hunters seeking to bag Moose, bear, grouse, and waterfowl.
In 1998 he moved home to South Dakota and currently resides in Belle Fourche SD. In the fall you can usually find him out with his hunting buddies in pursuit of a monster muley, antelope buck or stomping his way through a field of CRP rustling up a few birds.

Erik Boe a.k.a "8 High"

While he did grow up in the re-claimed bentonite hills in northeastern wyoming - Erik now makes his home in Belle Fourche SD. The one thing he did bring with him when he came east to SD was his love for Antelope hunting.
As a youngster, he believed he could “bulldog” an antelope off of his motorcycle. Although he was unsuccessful, the dream remains. Now with 4 kids and a few more “smarts”, the dream has shifted to a .270 and the western plains of SD.
Today, Erik still loves the open plains and the smell of sagebrush, but he has learned that horns also come atop monster muleys and the occasional elk.

Brian Snow a.k.a "Coast to Coast"

The family farm in Yankton County was full of opportunities for boyhood adventures in hunting. Ground squirrels, skunks and the occasional badger were great challenges for the old open-sight .22 and, despite grandma's fury, many a pigeon was lost to his trusty single-shot .410.
Of course, the quarry and firearms have changed from those early days, but the boyhood excitement of stalking on a crisp autumn day has not diminished. Now living in Spearfish with his wife and family, Brian dreams of finding a monster muley to call his own.

Miles Gifford a.k.a. "Earl"

Known for his MONSTER turkey, Miles grew up in Faith SD hunting whitetails from treestands from an early age.
Sitting in his first treestand at age six watching his father hunt, he was hooked! If you don't find Miles in a treestand, you'll probably find him out picking off prairie dogs, chasing up birds with his pet lab or teaching his boys the finer points of sportsmanship and hunting.
Currently residing in Whitewood, SD, he steps out his back porch every morning and his heart races anticipating the day he will again draw his bow with sights on a buck.

Jason Boke - a.k.a. "Double Ought Buck"

Our founder grew up in South Dakota - enjoying the abundance of hunting on the family ranch near Faith SD. Whether involved in a high speed chase for antelope, tracking down a monster whitetail or sneaking up on a wiry jackrabbit, each fall held it's own adventures in western South Dakota.
Having developed a love of the outdoors, Jason continued to hone his shooting skills during the 5 years he spent in the Navy crawling around the jungles of the eastern pacific. Spending many years abroad, he was awe'd by the realization that much of the joys that he took for granted as a youth were not the common hunting experiences held by other hunters.
Now an adult living with his wife and family in Spearfish SD, he is an avid hunter and sportsman and enjoys getting out in the field hunting and fishing all over the state of South Dakota.
His love of the outdoors and especially hunting within South Dakota is what sparked the desire to create SouthDakotaHunting.com - an online community where hunters could gather, tell stories, swap pictures and help other hunters in their quest for the hunt of a lifetime.
He knew that the diversity of game, the quality of the management and the accessiblility of great hunting throughout the state of South Dakota is something that people would want to know about - and he knew that once they learned what it was like to hunt in South Dakota - from people that have done it....
they wouldn't want to hunt anywhere else!
