SD Dove, Quail & Partridge Hunting

Doves are found almost everywhere in South Dakota. The prefer grasslands, open woodlands, agricultural fields, and residential areas. Primary foods are seeds and small grains.
Bobwhite Quail are named for their distinctive call, a rising whistle. South Dakota is on the extreme northern range for these birds, and are most likely found in the southeastern part of the state.
Partridge can be found in grassy and agricultural areas, especially where there are shelterbelts and woodlots.

SD Pheasant Hunting

The Ringneck Pheasant is the state bird of South Dakota, and according to the Game Fish and Parks, 2010 should be GREAT year for Pheasants in South Dakota!
The Pheasant was successfully introduced into the pacific-northwest of the United States in the late 1800s. Over a century later, the combination of habitat, wildlife management and fortunate weather patterns have made South Dakota a pheasant haven and a world-class hunting destination.

South Dakota Grouse Hunting

South Dakota is home to a large population of ruffed and Sharptail Grouse. Sharp-tailed grouse (Sharptails) and prairie chicken are closely related native birds, and are interspersed across the short grass prairie of central and western South Dakota. Ruffed grouse are a forest bird found in limited numbers in the Black Hills of western South Dakota. Both birds are noted for their explosive takeoff and loud beating of their wings in flight.
